SINGLE REVIEW: Cruel Noise – Adi on Positas

‘Adi on Positas’ channels Cruel Noise’s DIY spirit in its purest form — loud, chaotic, self-aware, and delivered with a grin. Inspired by the band’s bassist Adi Rütimann and the mayhem that erupts when you’re trying to do everything right yet everything still spirals anyway, the track takes that tongue-in-cheek premise and turns it into a buoyant blast of rhythmic punk.

Pounding guitars and thrashing drums set the pace from the outset, erupting into a sound that’s both messy and meticulously driven. It’s hooky and infectious, the kind of punk track that grabs you by the collar and starts running before you’ve even had a chance to catch your breath. The vocals — gruff, raw, abrasive yet oddly melodic — cut straight through the noise, anchoring the frenzy with character and intent.

There’s a great No Religion-meets-Descendents rhythmic stomp running through the song, sharpened by bursts of hardcore ferocity. It has that classic “down the front of the venue, pint sloshing everywhere” energy: scrappy, fast, and full of personality. But what really sells it is the playfulness — a fun, cheeky jab at their bassist wrapped in a full-throttle punk riot.

Halfway through, the track takes a swinging detour: a bright, nonchalant twist that shifts the mood into something almost breezy, complete with a toe-tapping beat and a sense of looseness that feels brilliantly out of step with the chaos around it. It’s the musical equivalent of shrugging mid-meltdown — and it works.

Then, just as quickly, the delightful racket comes crashing back in for the finale, louder and more joyful than before.

‘Adi on Positas’ is pure Cruel Noise: fun, feral, hook-packed, and steeped in DIY charm. A riotous tribute, a playful dig, and an irresistible burst of punk energy all at once.
