SINGLE REVIEW: New York Rats – Outta My Head

‘Outta My Head’ is the kind of track that smacks you in the face from the first second and refuses to apologise for it. New York Rats come tearing through with a gritty, fast-paced burst of punk rock that feels both chaotic and laser-focused at once. It’s raw, gnarly and gloriously unfiltered — the sound of a band that clearly couldn’t care less about polish or perfection.

The distorted guitars snarl with that classic old-school bite, but there’s something distinctly modern in the way it’s all put together. The energy feels almost hyper, like it’s been funnelled through a contemporary punk lens, giving it the same quirky, manic spark that fans of Snõõper will instantly recognise. The drums rampage underneath with a sense of urgency that never lets up, driving the whole thing forward at breakneck speed. The kind of track that makes you wanna dance, badly, intentionally!

There’s a killer, scratchy guitar solo wedged in there too — short, sharp and completely unhinged, like it’s about to fall apart at any second but somehow holds steady. It’s perfectly in line with the DIY grit that defines the track, where every rough edge feels deliberate and earned. ‘Outta My Head’ is pure punk chaos done right — scrappy, loud, and bursting with conviction. It’s got that old-school snarl with a new-school twitch, and it sounds absolutely alive.

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
