Playing FOCUS Wales and Sheffield this summer

Every village has its own ghost story, and "YnCanu" (translated from Welsh as "Is Singing") brings to life the haunting legend of the ghost of Wylfa Power Station. Workers at the site have long whispered of a mysterious presence—thought to be an opera singer named Rosina from New Zealand, whose haunting melodies echo through the station.

Sung in Donna Lee's native Welsh language, Sister Wives' new single weaves a spellbinding tale of Rosina's ghost, capturing the eerie yet beautiful essence of her voice that still lingers in the air.

With its evocative lyrics and stirring composition, "YnCanu" is a poignant reminder of life's fragility, inviting listeners to reflect on the haunting presence of the past and the power of collective memory...

The band say of the song: "YnCanu is a haunting ballad that weaves together the eerie folklore of ‘Madam Wen’ or ‘White Lady’, a spectral figure forever tied to the rugged cliffs and crashing seas near Cemaes and the imposing Wylfa nuclear power station. The song tells the tragic tale of a woman who either met her untimely death from the cliffs or now wanders, endlessly searching for a lost love.

"In its melodies, we wanted to capture ttwo parts of the tale: the tension between the relentless power of the nuclear station and the tranquil beauty of the surrounding landscape, mirroring the delicate balance between life and death."

Live Dates

10th May - FOCUS Wales, Wrexham
25th July - Sidney & Matilda, Sheffield

Unearthing forgotten feminist histories through myth and landscape, Sister Wives weave wild tales braiding the Welsh and English language over their signature glam-droog-acid-stomp. Haunting 4-part harmonies drift atop heavy psychedelia, avant space rock and ferocious fuzz-laden folk. The band recently returned with the single "Malady", and "YnCanu" provides a second taste of new music from them.

In recent years, Sister Wives have seen their debut album Y Gawres nominated for the prestigious Welsh Music Prize 2023. They've been in session for Marc Riley's BBC6Music show, played Green Man twice, headlined a sold-out London gig, and have performed on Welsh TV channel S4C.

Sister Wives have also experienced a line-up change since their last record, welcoming Rachael Loomes (also of R. Loomes/Haus Horo) who started writing with the band after filling in for previous guitarist Liv Willars’ maternity leave.

Praise for Sister Wives:

“Last year [...] we saw excellent releases from Sister Wives, an industrial-laced quartet that explore spirituality and witchcraft in their music” - NME

"Heavy hauntological psychedelia... most assuredly excellent" - Shindig!

“Shrouded with a coven-clouded appeal... Locked drums push against fuzz bass and a swirl of keys, while the vocals circle the whirlpool to great effect.” - Raven Sings The Blues

“Dark and mossy and quite promising.” - Brooklyn Vegan
