SIXTH WONDER Unleash Thunderous New Single ‘THORN’
“it’s the time for this band to show what they’re all about and build their way up through the scene.” - FOREVER LOUD
“something very special indeed” - REYT GOOD MUSIC
Glasgow-based quartet Sixth Wonder are releasing their first taste of new music since 2024 stand-alone single ‘Escalate’, with their thunderous new single ‘Thorn’, available digitally on April 9th.
‘Thorn’ has been in the works for well over a year, but tricky tracking and severe snow around their studio stint delayed production (“Il n'est point de roses sans épines”, as the French say). Thematically centred around betrayal and the processing of consequential mixed emotions, ‘Thorn’ is a wholly personal offering from the Scottish quartet, using lived experiences as the basis for this kick-in-the-face new single. The new single is the natural follow up to a 2024 that saw the band release their heaviest music to date. Rebekah Kirk’s vitriolic vocal delivery is placed at the forefront of technically proficient, rip-roaringly heavy instrumentation. The band will also release a performance music video for their new track, directed by Joey Aitchison. The close space location is a visual metaphor for the feelings of claustrophobia betrayal brings. “Going through that emotion it feels like the walls are closing in on you,” the band elaborated. “We felt a tight small space with the cold blue colours was a perfect fit for the song.”
Speaking on the single itself, the band noted: “‘Thorn’ is about coming to the realisation that you are fighting against someone you thought was on your side. It delves into the confusion of why they have chosen to betray you and reaches the destination of bitter acceptance, that they were never truly behind you from the beginning.”
Emerging as one of the most exciting forces in modern metal, Sixth Wonder are a Scottish alt-metal band forging a bold new sound where “djent pop” meets cinematic fantasy. With soaring melodies, searing riffs, and immersive storytelling, they craft sonic landscapes that blurs genre lines. The four-piece have already earned airplay on BBC Radio 1, claimed Best Metal at the 2023 Scottish Alternative Music Awards (SAMAs), and shared the stage with the likes of Dream State, Fearless Vampire Killers, and Future Static. Having released a slurry of singles since their formation in 2021, Sixth Wonder look to make 2025 their year, with some very exciting plans in the pipeline including a support slot for newshapes at the infamous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut on the 19th April.
