Squangey Bobbins share single ‘FAKE I.D.’ ft Billy Lunn (The Subways)

Squangey Bobbins are the Margate based alt indie rock band that have the raw energy of The Jam, the wit of Arctic Monkeys and the unabashed chaos of The Libertines.

They have enjoyed previous chart success as part of the compilation album ‘Brits and Pieces 2’ which reached number 52 in the Official UK charts.

The album saw support from the likes of Frank Turner, The Subways and Robert Carlyle. They have also had music played on BBC radio, being likened, amongst others, to the Foo Fighters.

Other accolades include their debut album ‘Electric Vinyl’ being picked up by HMV and being included in the official HMV Recommends Section in store.

The band have enjoyed a host of prominent gigs including playing on the iconic Scenic stage at Dreamland Margate, at Ramsgate Music Hall, at The Libertines' Albion Rooms, at the Tunbridge Wells Forum, the Dublin Castle Camden and the Dover Booking Hall. As well as playing the main stage at events such as Chickenstock Festival and Preston Summerfest. They have also supported artists such as Toploader, Pet Needs, and Riskee and the Ridicule.

Featuring Lewis Colley on vocals, Chris Bourne on guitar, Jack Elliot on bass, Tommy Pearce on Drums and with The Subways frontman Billy Lunn also appearing on the track providing additional vocals.

The first single to be released from the band’s upcoming album is the fast paced, feel good anthem of ‘Fake ID’ featuring a toe tapping arrangement of sound coupled with a unique vocal offering of gritty power house vocals giving an almost nostalgic country flare to this otherwise early indie inspired tune. With some huge guitar riffs and those thrashing drums, you’ll be jumping around in unabandoned joy to this exciting new tune from this underground band with the massive cult following.

The band have said of the track:-

Fake I.D. was written to capture that feeling of misspent youth — romanticising the days when the only reason to work was to earn just enough to go out with your mates at the weekend.

I’d been listening to a lot of The Subways and The Enemy at the time — those bursts of energetic indie-punk tunes from the mid-2000s have always been a huge influence. We wanted to create something that paid homage to that era while adding our own modern spin. It’s a super simple, full of energy, straight-to-the-point tune.

When the chance came to work with The Subways frontman and indie legend Billy Lunn, we jumped at it. We sent him the demo and then got to work in the studio. Spending the day with someone who directly influenced this track was massive. Billy didn’t just mix, engineer, and produce the song — he also added backing vocals, which really cemented that connection to the mid-2000s indie boom.

‘Fake ID’ was recorded at Farm Factory Studios and was Mixed, Engineered and Produced by Billy Lunn (The Subways) and was Mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios.

The track is taken from the band’s upcoming album release ‘Margate Crows’ which is set for release early in the New Year on the 9th January 2026 via Rough Trade

Squangey Bobbins are set to embark on their most ambitious task yet with the release of their new album - hoping to break into the charts without any management, label, or industry backing behind them.

The new album ‘Margate Crows’ brings together an impressive roster of collaborators, including Billy Lunn (The Subways), Sean Hutchinson (Bleachers, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen), Peredur Ap Gwynedd (Pendulum), Ivan Hussey (Liam Gallagher, Jay Z), Dan Konopka (OK Go), Dan Sealey (Ocean Colour Scene), Tommy Gleeson (Feeder), and a host of other local artists.

The record has been mastered by Nick Brine (Oasis, The Stone Roses, Coldplay, The Darkness) and Alex Wharton (Abbey Road Studios), with artwork captured by Roger Stanger Photography, showcasing the beauty and grit of  the band’s hometown.

The album will be available as a collectors 12-CD bundle, complete with a hand-signed and numbered art card, limited to just 200 orders so hurry and- PRE-ORDER HERE NOW as these won’t last long!
