Supermodel* Releases Rule-Breaking Debut EP
Virginia-born, LA-based writer and producer Frankie Beanie unveils his debut body of work as supermodel*: a chaotic, cohesive, and fiercely original six-track project that cements him as one of the most exciting new voices in alternative music. Listen [HERE].
Across supermodel ep*, jagged post-punk riffs crash into hip-hop grit, hypnotic bass loops, breakbeats, and 80s-tinged synths. The result is a world that feels raw and unpredictable, yet unmistakably singular. From the breakneck opener “superstar” to the snarling defiance of “f**k ur idols”, through to the shimmering closer “my heart” (arguably his most vulnerable track yet) the EP thrives on contradiction: abrasive and tender, instinctive and deliberate, messy but magnetic.
“This project is kind of a world of its own,” Beanie explains. “Each track has its own energy, whether it’s aggressive, dancey, or fragile - but together they’re unified by the voice, the visuals, the uniform. I wanted it to feel like an introduction that doesn’t give you everything, just enough to make you want to know what’s coming next.”
That sense of world-building has been baked in from day one. supermodel* runs on its own philosophy:
rules of supermodel*
don’t try and be “cool”
steal everything
all lowercase always
don’t overthink shit
always talk about “fight club”
“The rules are there to stop me from making boring shit. supermodel* has to feel stolen, stupid, instinctive and raw… like it’s breaking its own logic. It’s about not hiding behind some ‘cool guy’ façade. Just make the best shit possible, and put it in lowercase. That’s supermodel*.”
The EP arrives following a string of striking singles that introduced Beanie’s genre-blurring artistry. Debut track “i used to live in england” earned acclaim for its hypnotic bass and bold visual aesthetic, while follow-up “no future” pushed deeper into hip-hop and breakbeat experimentation. Most recently, “your house” marked a leap in ambition by pairing LCD Soundsystem-inspired beats with 80s emo-tinged melodies, its 16mm video cheekily nodding to Coldplay’s “Yellow” and underscoring Beanie’s auteur approach.
Support has already come from tastemakers including BBC Radio 6, KCRW, and NPR. The world extends beyond the music: a recognisable uniform of Adidas track jacket, baggy jeans, and face tattoos; videos that parody and reimagine iconic moments in pop culture; and a refusal to take anything too seriously.
