Sylvaner Makes an Intimate First Statement with Atmospheric Debut “Pentimento”
Las Vegas born and raised Sylvaner grew up surrounded by an eclectic musical world. With parents who had a wide-ranging palette and a father who ran several record stores, he spent his childhood absorbing whatever vinyl passed through the house. Music quickly became his native language and a way of connecting. “Sharing a good song has always been a huge form of communication for me,” he says, and that instinct eventually led him from engineering other artists to building a sound of his own.
Three years ago, while pursuing full-time studio engineering, he realised his creative ear was drifting elsewhere. He began experimenting daily between the studio and his bedroom, gradually shaping the ideas that would spark his debut project. His new single “Pentimento” is the first glimpse into that world.
Engineered, produced, written, and mixed by Sylvaner, “Pentimento” is the result of complete creative immersion. He recorded himself and his guitarist in total privacy, then spent weeks sifting through a flood of ideas, refining the track through more than 60 mixes until it finally captured the balance he wanted — spacious yet intimate, confident yet vulnerable.
Sonically, “Pentimento” sits in a soulful pop landscape: minimalist but deeply affecting. His vocals ooze with emotion, gliding over raw electric guitar textures, echoing harmonies, and a sense of cinematic space. The track is sensual, atmospheric, and built to hit hard without ever needing to be loud.
The concept came together during a period of personal upheaval. “I had a dictionary app that would show me a new word every day, and one day I happened to see ‘Pentimento,’” he recalls. Drawn to the idea of old layers resurfacing beneath the surface, he threaded the meaning into the heartbreak he’d recently lived through. The song reads as a classic breakup track on the surface, but for listeners who dig into the definition, it becomes something far more introspective — a reflection on the parts of ourselves that remain, even after someone has gone.
