Taken from her highly awaited debut album ‘No Please, Yes Thank You’ May The Muse returns with her highly addictive, and very present new single ‘Cruel World’

Project creator Désirée reveals the story behind her new single, describing how “‘Cruel World’ was in its embryonic stages when I first performed it at the Berliner  Philharmonie. I was excited about the chord sequence and the potential to explore a  variety of melodic paths through it. When we recorded ‘Cruel World’, I was listening to  The Sisters of Mercy, particularly the album ‘Floodland’. I love the persistent bass  lines that refuse to evolve; it forces the band into dynamic choices to elevate the  reprises and doesn’t rely on cheap key changes. This is my version of goth.

The lyrics are about a resilient connection that emerges despite the surrounding  hardships and injustices. A sanctuary of warmth and understanding in an environment  marred by suffering and indifference.”

'No Please, Yes Thank You'

‘No Please, Yes Thank You’ is an eclectic collection of songs veering from neo-soul to  rock, goth, country and pop, which supports the assertion by Clash magazine that  “conversations around the genre of music she makes fade into irrelevance.” 'No  Please, Yes Thank You' displays a sound that just can’t be pigeonholed, or fully  defined by any genre. It’s a musical journey from start to finish, from the hard hitting  ‘Cruel World’ through to 'Diamonds Or Pearls', it’s a mesmerising, and highly  ambitious listen.

The intriguing journey of May The Muse…

May The Muse is the creative output of American/German singer/songwriter Désirée  Mishoe. Raised in small-town in Belgium, she reluctantly carved a successful career in  modelling for a decade, throughout her teens and into her twenties, until music called.

As her first love, it became irresistible and she felt compelled to pivot from modelling  into the world of music.

Initially writing songs alone, and later collaborating with German producer Robot  Koch, she released her diverse first EP entitled ‘Gold’ in 2018, which featured her  much-loved cover version of Moderat’s ‘Bad Kingdom’. In 2020, May The Muse  released the single ‘Islands and Waves’, which also appeared on the 2021 release of  her ‘When Mercury Fades’ EP.

Celebrated for her “intense creativity’’ (Clash) and her “bewitching vocals’’ (The Line  of Best Fit), she received an invitation for the much-praised A COLORS SHOW in early  2021. May The Muse went on to play festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival,

Melt! Festival and Reeperbahn Festival. She has supported Artists like The  Avalanches, Ibeyi, Joep Beving and The Darkness.

Her music has been used in the hit Netflix Series Dark and it has also appeared in  Riverdale and Kimmy Fasani’s, Butterfly in a Blizzard.

‘Cruel World’ is available on all major streaming platforms right now!
