Isle of Wight indie riser ugly ozo shares pulsating new track ‘sink or swim’, out today (September 9th), marking the third reveal from debut EP ‘stargirl’ (pre-order here), set for release October 24th via REX RECS.

A turbulent, high-speed dive into the deep end of human insecurity, ‘sink or swim’ captures the visceral chaos of comparison, jealousy, and the bitter taste of falling short. Written and recorded at REX Studio with longtime collaborator and producer Macks Faulkron (HighSchool, Picture Parlour, She’s In Parties), ugly ozo’s latest single pulses with claustrophobic energy. Completed in a day, you get the sense that this track bulldozed its way into existence; its fast-paced and intense nature mirroring the spiraling feelings of envy, frustration, and competition.

Signalling the follow-up to acclaimed lead singles ‘madonna’ and ‘onto a winner’ and arriving off the back of a Dope Lemon tour support last week, ugly ozo has already attracted countless plaudits across the press community (DIY Magazine, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Rough Trade, Under The Radar). With BBC 6 Music also becoming strong supporters (Nathan Shepherd, Chris Hawkins, Amy Lamé - ‘Sunday Girl’ feature), as well as repeated backing from Radio X (John Kennedy) and KEXP (Cheryl Waters), the indie newcomer is fast becoming a standout figure in the emerging indie landscape.

Partnered with REX RECS, the new indie label founded by producer, writer and musician Macks Faulkron, of REX Studio, a creative music hub for the underground scene in North London (Caroline Polachek, Confidence Man, Daniel Avery, Picture Parlour, She's In Parties), ugly ozo’s contagious musicality is plastered all over her new material, and with The Wytches and Night Swimming supports lined up in the weeks to come, her extensive live plot continues to take shape.

Discussing her latest offering, ugly ozo stated: "’sink or swim’ came from a really vulnerable place. Lyrically, it's a super personal insight into my own struggles with self-comparison and jealousy. It can be kind of embarrassing to admit insecurity- I'm quite good at pretending to be confident in myself when in reality, I'm the opposite.”

ugly ozo’s ‘sink or swim’ is out now via REX RECS and available on all digital platforms.
