Yorkshire noiseniks Feral Family release new single ‘The Balance’
With seemingly half the world away selling everything they own to experience the Gallagher brothers live, now seems the perfect time to herald the next generation of Northern guitar-driven anthems. For your consideration as stadium headliner of the future: Feral Family.
Capturing the vitality and urgency of their renowned live presence is no small feat, but with new single The Balance, East Yorkshire’s Feral Family confidently delivers.
Thundering and wailing into the psyche, Feral Family’s music erupts like a DJ Set by the Horsemen of The Apocalypse. Inescapable comparisons to Joy Division have focused largely on the portent of singer Jamie Lowe’s unique delivery, driven by cataclysmic bass, guitar and drums. Joining founding members Lowe and guitarist Oscar Woods for this next chapter is drummer Regan Grimson, bringing an extra dimension from years of live experience and a love of the likes of Soundgarden and Alice In Chains.
On the meaning behind the new single, Lowe elucidates: “it’s written from the perspective of what you’d hope your eulogy to be. Of having not succumbed to the trappings of a 9–5 routine, yet not being so wild and care-free that you’ve achieved nothing. ‘Is the balance right?’ — that is the real trick.”
Using incendiary footage filmed to complement the track’s release, a live video for The Balance shot by the band’s long-time collaborator Charlie Spalding will follow shortly.
As with 2024’s debut album Without Motion, Feral Family’s latest was mixed and produced by Liam Radburn at Magic Garden studios. The Balance arrives as lead single from the band’s second EP, ahead of their sophomore album due 2026.
Giving a teaser of the future EP’s themes, Woods promises songs of: “love, loss and yearning — experiences that echo throughout your life.”
With multiple Top 10 charting singles already under their belt, the band has received much welcomed radio support from John Kennedy (Radio X), Steve Lamacq (6Music), BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Total Rock in the UK alone. Be it headlining or supporting the likes of The View, the Lilacs and The Heavy North, Feral Family is a force to be reckoned with on any stage and a string of live appearances are soon to be announced.
