Øyunn delivers raw and emotionally charged new single ‘Hope That You’ll Sing Again’

In her new single ‘Hope That You’ll Sing Again’, drummer, rapper and vocalist Øyunn delivers a raw and emotionally charged track that blends heavy drums, a free-floating bassline, and her brutally honest songwriting. Produced by Øyunn and longtime collaborator Brian Batz, and released via Midnight Confessions, the track is a dynamic journey through frustration, care, and quiet hope.

The verses are driven by weary, almost resigned rap sections — voicing the pain of watching a close friend step away from what once made them come alive. There’s anger, too: the tension of being both a witness and a trigger, of loving someone who can’t see their own spark anymore.

Then comes the chorus — understated, hypnotic, and unexpectedly gentle. With vulnerable, fragile vocals, Øyunn sings a looping message of encouragement. It’s a soft but insistent lifeline, wrapped in a groove that shifts and breathes beneath the surface.

Behind the name Øyunn is Siv Øyunn Kjenstad, a diverse artist born in Norway but now based in Copenhagen. She released a live album ‘Aspects’ in 2023 which was originally a film, performance and concert created for Ultima Festival. The album led to Øyunn winning ‘New Jazz Name of the Year’ at the Danish Music Awards 2024. She is also known for being the touring drummer for Danish indie legends Efterklang, as well as drumming for Bugge Wesseltoft, Nils Frahm & Guldimund.

As bold in form as it is in feeling, ‘Hope That You’ll Sing Again’ further cements Øyunn’s place as one of the most fearless and emotionally articulate voices on the Nordic scene.

The track follows Øyunn’s recent single ‘New Life’ which gained praise from major music tastemaker blog Earmilk and airplay from Radio X’s John Kennedy.

The new single comes from Øyunn’s forthcoming debut studio album ‘I Know U Can Do It’ out now via Midnight Confessions.
