Zachary Mason Releases New Single “The Funky Martians”
Out Now: A Funk-Fuelled Psychedelic Journey to Mars
Zachary Mason has just released “The Funky Martians”, the second track from his upcoming three-track EP, 5…4…3…2…1…, which promises a mix of humour, heart, and far-out sounds. Released on July 25th, 2025, the single sets the tone for an EP that’s playful, experimental, and occasionally profound.
“The Funky Martians” tells the bizarre and comical story of a human colony landing on Mars, only to be met by hostile extraterrestrials. A fortunate mistake reveals the secret to peace: funky music. The track features a tight, irresistible bassline from Little Big Town’s John Thomasson and dynamic drums by Nate Barnes of Rose Hill Drive. Layered with psychedelic guitar textures and quirky vocal effects, Zachary brings the whole universe to life — voicing the narrator, colonists, and Martians himself.
Blending space rock, psychedelic rock, and experimental alt-funk, “The Funky Martians” is Zachary’s tenth single and fifteenth released track overall. While the full release date of 5…4…3…2…1… is still under wraps, fans can expect more wild storytelling and sonic surprises in the near future.
