Zara Smile Releases New Single “Misplaced” – A Celebration of Queer Joy in a Time of Uncertainty
Liverpool-based artist Zara Smile returns with “Misplaced”, an electrifying alt-pop anthem that’s as introspective as it is defiant. Dropping June 12th, this latest single marks a powerful statement in Zara’s ever-evolving sonic journey, a fusion of pop-punk energy, heartfelt lyricism, and queer euphoria.
Written at 19 during a time of intense self-discovery, Misplaced reflects Zara’s experience of navigating gender identity, queerness, and cultural belonging. Originally conceived for a rock band, the song maintains its upbeat, high-energy DNA while diving headfirst into deeply personal territory. With its driving guitars, soaring saxophone melodies, and unapologetically honest vocals, Misplaced transforms feelings of alienation into a loud, proud celebration of being exactly who you are, even when the world tells you otherwise.
“It’s a song that came from my gender crisis, but in a fun way!” says Zara. “It’s an anthem for anyone who’s ever felt out of place in their own skin.”
The track follows the success of Zara’s recent single “Typical”, which explored neurodivergence and the challenges of existing in a world that wasn’t designed for you. Typical earned praise from Boot Music Magazine and Under The Radar.
Zara has quickly become a rising voice in the UK’s alternative scene, recently selling out their Liverpool headline show at The Jacaranda and playing to growing audiences in Manchester and London. Zara Smile is building a sound that’s as unique as their story: a blend of delicate folk storytelling, distorted guitars, and emotionally charged performances that invite listeners into an open, intimate world.
