Today, Dead Nature – the solo project of former Spring King singer Tarek Musa – is announcing its first new music of 2021 in the shape of new single “Red Clouds”, along with news that work on his as-yet-untitled debut album is complete. Producer and songwriter Tarek Musa has for a long time placed himself at the centre of other artists’ worlds, helping to hone sounds and build scenes through his production work for artists such as The Big Moon, Genghar, and Dream Nails - as well as providing remixes for the likes of Circa Waves. With Dead Nature, Musa allows himself to step back from his role as architect for others and set about externalizing his own creative impulses. With a well-received debut EP already under his belt, released before Coronavirus put a halt to everything, on this first taste of music from a debut album we find Dead Nature yearning for connection. The boisterous, sky-high pop dramatics of "Red Clouds" swirl with the energy of festivals yet-to-return, and treasured collective experiences that hang just out of view. Its insistent earmworm qualities come from Musa’s preferred writing process of embracing spontaneity, writing quickly in order to capture the truest impression of an original idea. Written, produced and mixed by Tarek Musa himself from his studio in Liverpool – with additional production from Joe Wills (Stealing Sheep, Dan Croll, Flyte, Little Dragon) - “Red Clouds” features guest backing vocals from the Domino Records-signed All We Are bassist Guro Gikling. Vintage synths and talk box pedals bring it all to life in animated style. Tarek Musa expands some more on the new song: “Red Clouds is about those dewy-eyed experiences we have of love, of people moving on, of moments you truly don’t want to end. I was listening to a lot of lo-fi 80’s music, the kinds of songs that bands were recording in their garages or local DIY studios on the first home-studio budget tape machines, and it inspired me to indulge in that world. A world of simple songs centred around innocent romance and love with lyrics so effortless in their attempt to be anything other than 3 minutes of pure nostalgia.” Hear "Red Clouds" on DSPs HERE Listen to / share "Red Clouds" on SoundCloud HERE Stay until the morning light, stay until the morning light When there is thunder, we can hold down this life together Nothing is hard when we can join up against the weather More news on the debut album will follow in 2021.
