Today, London’s ISLAND have shared their new single “Everyone’s The Same.” "Everyone’s The Same" is the raw and direct follow up to ISLAND’s previous shimmering single "Octopus.” The contrast between the two tracks perfectly highlights the band’s unique dynamic range and risk taking in their new songwriting process. The grungy slacker slow jam begins with a deceivingly simple statement proposed softly by singer Rollo Doherty. For the next two and half minutes, distorted bass lines and chunky, to-the-point drums, ooze into your psyche while the reverb drenched lead guitar hooks you in and perfectly complements the raspy and catchy cacophony. “Everyone’s The Same” is out today via Frenchkiss Records.

“'Everyone’s The Same' is a song for anyone who’s angry at being told they can’t make any sort of difference or can’t be a positive force for change,” says Doherty of the track. “I'd been getting really frustrated with this idea that as individuals our actions aren’t able to make a difference on the collective impact we're having on the world, the idea that we’re all destined to have a negative influence on the environment just by existing, and that everyone is equally guilty. But the song is intended to be broader than that, and to capture that feeling of frustration at being told what you're worth.”

“Everyone’s The Same” and “Octopus” were recorded in semi-locked-down London last summer with Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke), their first time working with an outside producer. The result showcases the band experimentating with more complex production as they introduce new textures, instrumentation and recording techniques to expand and further hone in on a sound that has always been unique to ISLAND. Their recent single “Octopus” marked the band’s first new material since 2019 and has seen them already rack up over 300K streams as well as earning plaudits from a vast array of publications with the likes of Gigwise calling it “a lush, multi-layered indie-pop dreamscape,” and Clash describing it asA tightly coiled indie pop jammer that conjures a rich sense of atmosphere,” that finds the band “developing in an extremely fresh way.” ISLAND released their debut album Feels Like Air in 2018. It put them on the map with world-wide critical acclaim racking up millions of plays across Spotify. Their When We're Still EP came the following year. Before the pandemic hit, ISLAND had firmly established themselves as one of the UK’s most exciting live bands having toured across the US, UK, and Europe including stops at SXSW, Reading Festival, Bastille Sound, Truck Festival and TRNSMT.
