"Bracing and infectious rock-and-roll blowout"

"Bruised, bloodied but unwavering, Katie Malco is a fighter staring down existential and everyday crises. 4****"

"A surging return"

“Katie Malco captures the zeitgeist of a generation lost” 4*

"Trembling and raw"

"She’s poised to gain even more traction"

"Soon enough, up-and-coming singer-songwriter Katie Malco won’t be so 'up-and-coming' anymore"

"If you’re into stuff like, say, the new Ratboys and Soccer Mommy albums, you’ll probably wanna hear this too."

“There’s a powerful vulnerability at the core of Malco’s music, delivered with a resolute self-assurance as she bares her soul, that makes her such a remarkable songwriter.”

Creatures is about insomnia and disillusionment; a single that comes as a series of distilled versions of songs from Katie Malco’s debut album ‘Failures’, which are being released over the course of the next few months. The midlands singer-songwriter also embarks on an extensive UK tour with Hüsker Dü’s Bob Mould in June and a further tour in September with Laura Stevenson alongside the single releases. (Full dates below..) Malco explains how she wrote the song during a week of sleep deprivation; “’Creatures’ is about the thoughts that haunt you at night when you’re trying to sleep. It’s about being tired, facing adulthood, and leaving behind youth. And pretending to hold it together but at night all the ugliness is plastered across all the walls you stare at from your bed.”

Malco often references war / battle and sleep in her music, allegorising the two extremes in terms of the mundanity of modern life and one’s personal struggles and daily battles. "You fight to get through stuff every day and sleep is your reward. The battles you’re fighting always seem important, but they wear you down and can stop you from appreciating whatever is outside of them."

Creatures is the pinnacle of these contrasting ideas. “When you’re losing the daily battles and ultimately therefore the war, and you can’t even get to sleep at the end of a weary day of fighting your small fights…what a cruel joke that is.”

Malco has previously toured with Julien Baker, Fenne Lily, Jenny Lewis and more, alongside releasing her critically acclaimed debut album ‘Failures’, which not only charted but received rave reviews from NPR, DIY, Dork, CLASH, Stereogum etc, whilst NPR also chose Malco as one of their picks to catch at SXSW last year.
