[21st May 2021] Multifaceted musician Kalpee returns with his latest powerful track ‘Lessons’, featuring fellow West Indian singer Mortimer - out now on FVP Records via Absolute Label Services. Self-written ‘Lessons’ is the first single Trinbagonian singer Kalpee has released since his successful five-track 2020 EP Feel Good Playlist Vol.1. Captivating and dynamic, ‘Lessons’ brings together Kalpee and Mortimer’s emotive lyrical storytelling and passionate R&B melodies that effortlessly intertwine to create the perfect island pop soundscape. Kalpee says: “’Every day is a lesson’ this is a mindset for me! This song was part of an awakening into who I am now, finding the lessons in my worse days and moving onto bigger things in life. The energy behind this song is one that champions us to believe in our growth.” ‘Lessons’ features Jamaican sensation Mortimer, who joined Kalpee on the debut of ‘The Island Stage’ at this year’s virtually streamed South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Music Festival and consequently will now take place annually. Pioneered by Kalpee, along with his manager, Miss Vivianna of FVP Global through new music, wellness and soul repairing events platform Therapy – ‘The Island Stage’ aims to create opportunities for West Indian artists to come together and represent the variety of music from the many islands that make up The Caribbean. ‘The Island Stage’ received an exceptional international reception and created a strong fan base for all the artists involved, introducing the power of Caribbean music to a new worldwide audience. On working with Mortimer, Kalpee says “I visited Jamaica, to work and perform on ‘The Island Stage 2021’ and while searching for artist to join the line-up, I met incredible artist Mortimer. His performance resonated with me. I knew he had to be on ‘Lessons’ and well... he smashed it. Working with someone so talented and having that other creative ear, helping with arrangements and mixes made me really want to take it to the next level and Mortimer did just that!” Mortimer adds: “The song is true and I’m a fan of things that are true. It didn't take long to come together. I had just witnessed a fire in the hills when I got the song, and everything fit right in with thought. I enjoyed working it and I’m honoured I could work with such beautiful talent! Nuff love to Kalpee every time.” Kalpee has worked with platinum recording superstar Stefflon Don on his sun-soaked single ‘Gimme De Ting,‘ and with an elite line up of Grammy Award producers and writers including: Carla Marie Williams (Beyonce, Britney Spears, Rudimental, Sean Paul), Yei Gonzales (Diplo, Cardi B, Dj Khaled), Santiago Rodriguez (Little Mix, Pit Bull, Akon) and The Anmls (The Weeknd, Future, BANKS, Belly, D.R.A.M, French Montana, Meek Mill). He has received radio support from BBC 1Xtra’s DJ Target and DJ Ace as well as Capital 1Xtra’s Ras Kwame. He has also gained accolades from EARMILK, Official Charts, 1883 Magazine, CLASH, Complex UK, Hunger TV, Ladygunn, GRM Daily, Bonafide Magazine, House Of Solo and Guap Magazine. Kalpee teamed up with BooHooMAN on a series of ‘Feelgood Friday’ live sessions which ran online in December 2020. Additionally, Kalpee co-hosted and performed for Unlock Virtual Festival in 2020; the charitable online event teamed up with various musicians, influencers and comedians to raise donations for The Prince’s Trust.
