SINGLE REVIEW: Harper - Falling

Harper is TEN YEARS old, take a moment to let that sink in!

“Falling” is the debut single from the rising star who found fame on TikTok, and what a debut it is!

Looking at photos of Harper you'd be fooled into expecting some bubblegum pop about boys penned by a writing team. What you get is one of the finest examples of screamo/metalcore I've heard in a long time!

The song is fierce, and full on with growling vocals that would likely make her far senior male counterparts a little bit envious.

There's chaotic, rawkus drums, screeching guitars that make you want to stop what you're doing and headbang. The vocals are sublime, the unclean portion is just the right amount of growl not so obscured they can't be made out what's being said while the clean portion is absolutely adorable with such a cutesy innocent purity.

Harper's style and the song's arrangement remind me a lot of little known, early 2000's Metalcore band Defenestration. They were one of my favourite examples of the genre so that comparison is one of high praise.

Harper has recently signed to Pale Cord as well as appearing onstage with Spiritbox at Brixton Academy. She's definitely going places and I can't wait to see what the future has in store.
