King Hüsky, also known as Vidar Landa of Norwegian metal institution, Kvelertak, compiles a compendium of conspiracy theory and wild conversation on Heads Above Water – OUT NOW. The third single from his upcoming, self-titled debut album, released on Fri 9 May 2025 via Hype City, the chameleonic, genre-shifting singer-songwriter paints novel pictures of the absurd over five minutes of pupating, upbeat, lyric-led indie.

One of the most surprising underground music stories of the past year, Landa’s growth into the skin of King Hüsky began in late-2024 with the release of debut single, Running. Instantly putting an ocean between his profile as guitarist of Kvelertak and a new, unexpected world of wry, observational songs wrapped in fuzzy indie instrumentation, every resultant note has exposed Landa’s sense of deprecating humour and deft songcraft.

The first King Hüsky album sketches vivid pen pictures over a wealth of sunny melody, poking fun in no small part at himself as well as the industry he has long called home. Following previous singles, Lately I’ve Been Thinking Of Your Mother and Wish I Had A Dog, the release of Heads Above Water finds Landa recalling the aftershow conversations that got wild, wondering aloud how people’s off-map ideas compute with the mundanities of real life.

He says: “It’s fascinating when seemingly ‘normal’ people mention lizard people or other conspiracies, as if it was just another topic of rational conversation. In writing ‘Heads Above Water’, I wondered how people who think inflation is connected to secret mazes, while licking a frog smuggled in from the Amazonas, can deal with everyday problems, like a bathroom leak or an insurance complaint.”

Open to comparison to Real Estate, Belle and Sebastian and Teenage Fanclub, the album veers from the pastoral and polite into faster, more fuzzed and frenetic sounds. Working closely with his partner and renowned singer-songwriter, Anne Lise Frøkedal, formerly of Norwegian indie-pop machine, Harry’s Gym and of the ongoing, I Was A King, the warmth heard throughout could easily be attributed to the sense of deep creative kinship and personal connection between the album’s musical contributors. The line-up is completed by drummer, Børge Fjordheim (Cloroform, Sivert Høyem) and friend, musician and actor, Arthur Berning.

King Hüsky is released on vinyl and CD as well as digital formats.
