Emerging Indie Rock Band Deep Sea Camels Releases Uncompromising New Single “Same Rules Apply”
The single marks a confident and ambitious expansion of the group’s musical horizons while staying true to their indie rock roots.
Independent rock band Deep Sea Camels announce the release of their uncompromising new single “Same Rules Apply,” arriving everywhere on December 8. This is not a polite song. It’s a sharp-edged indictment of a world where the ultra-rich gorge themselves on privilege while insisting everyone else tighten their belts and follow the rules they themselves ignore.
Packed with driving guitars, urgent rhythms, and a vocal delivery that refuses to blink, “Same Rules Apply” confronts the widening gap between power and accountability — and the corrosive effect it has on society at every level.
“We’re sick of watching people with limitless resources destroy the world and then blame the rest of us for the consequences,” says frontman Mike Dobson. “This song is us calling time on the hypocrisy. Enough is enough.”
Dobson also reveals a deeper, more personal layer within the track:
“There’s a personal homage in this song from me to Dave Greenfield, the brilliant Stranglers keyboard player. His musical imagination shaped so much of what I love about rock music — some of that spirit found its way into this track.”
Lead guitarist Steve Hurst adds, “You can’t witness the greed, the corruption, the total moral drift of the people at the top and not feel something boiling over. Music is where we put that anger. If it wakes even a handful of people up, it’s worth it.”
Equal parts anthem and warning, “Same Rules Apply” is indie rock sharpened into protest — a rallying cry for listeners who are tired of being told to sit down, behave, and quietly swallow the consequences of decisions they didn’t make.
If you prefer your rock visceral, intelligent, and unafraid of calling out the rot, Deep Sea Camels have delivered exactly that.
