FIDO Explores Deep Themes in Concept Album “What if Satan’s the Good Guy?”
Alternative rock trio FIDO has carved out a space for melodic, narrative-driven music that tackles difficult themes without sacrificing beauty. Their debut concept album, What if Satan’s the Good Guy?, is designed as a cohesive listening experience, blending emotional storytelling with philosophical provocation.
For listeners who appreciate full-length projects that challenge, unsettle, and linger, this album offers a compelling journey. The band has highlighted three key tracks that encapsulate its essence:
“Innocence” – A devastating song wrapped in beauty, this track features Amy’s heartbreakingly pure vocals and a lullaby-like melody. Beneath its softness, however, lies a stark story of childhood abuse, using contrast to disarm and disturb the attentive listener.
“Atheist in a Foxhole” – A delicate, emotionally layered piece that unfolds from two perspectives: a young man who enlists, full of idealism, and his mother, left to worry. It explores war, faith, and how both are sold, with haunting subtlety rather than aggression—its strength is in its restraint.
“I’ve Stopped Talking to God” – A deeply introspective track exploring the pain of spiritual disconnection. Featuring authentic recordings of Holocaust victims, the song respectfully weaves generational trauma into its narrative, amplifying its emotional weight. Wide musical dynamics—moments of near silence contrasted with powerful chords—serve as a metaphor for life’s light and shade.
FIDO has seen strong audience engagement around the themes of this album, reaching 3,500 YouTube subscribers in just six weeks, with a Spotify save rate of 70.7%. With What if Satan’s the Good Guy?, the band continues to push artistic boundaries, offering listeners an immersive and thought-provoking experience.
Band bio
Amy is a professional singer and a huge talent; it is great to be working with her on the Fido project. Amy is Shropshire born and bred, leaving the county to study performing arts in Leeds, her studies culminating in a performance in London’s West End. Amy then moved to London to hone her craft further, performing in cocktail bars in the city and dancing in the London 2012 opening ceremony. She has sung across Europe, danced in India and busked at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. She has) in a touring theatre show as Christine McVie in addition to writing and performing her own music in her original duo JAYS. And now Fido, a little darker maybe! Amy has a broad love of music, ranging from Whitney Houston to Iron Maiden and we are really looking forward to working with her - for you - in 2024 and beyond.
Julian is FIDO’s songwriter, guitarist, and for recordings, bass player. Jooles is a Shropshire lad and a late comer to music, son of a talented pianist and organist, he took a handful of piano lessons as a child but had to be bribed with fish and chips to go to each lesson being much more interested in BMX and general outdoorsy adventure.
He tried guitar in his early 20s when living in Germany, got as far as an F Major barre chord and gave up! In his early 40s he decided to try again, and with a little more leisure time available, he progressed beyond F Major and started to focus on his music. He is the guitarist in a popular Shropshire covers band, playing alongside Matt, FIDO’s drummer and second vocalist. He is excited to be writing and is very much looking forward to sharing the FIDO project with you.
Matt is FIDO’s drummer and second vocalist. Matt first picked up the sticks at the age of 11, following an obsession with prog rock and live music. Since then, he has been in over thirty bands across Shropshire and the Midlands. Matt has taught both music technology and performance and has lots of experience in producing and recording performance media. He lives and breathes music and is a self-confessed aficionado of music history.
