The Norfolk powerhouse HEDRA announces their new upcoming single release “The Glass” on own Record Label ‘Metal Collective Records’
About the Single
This is the fourth single from the upcoming album Ruin Everything, which is now taking a "when it's ready" approach to release. The track is an observation of society, primarily from a British perspective, where deviation and poverty—driven by the Government and councils—have become disturbingly widespread.
Produced at Innersound Audio by Sam & Joe Graves, the sound delivers the punch it needed for release.
"We’re being told to get on with things—it doesn’t matter if you’re barefoot, walking through broken glass. That’s the point of the song. We just start to recover slightly, and then a new Government comes in and destroys it all again. The state of the UK is depressing, but still, we have music. We need bad world leaders like this for the poetry," says Jim.
Drums were recorded live at Parlour Studios, Kettering, in September 2023—a studio famous for working with metal bands of a dystopian nature, such as Napalm Death. Guitars, bass, and vocals were completed as home recordings over a 12-month writing period.
The single cover photo features a worker walking on a glass mirror, losing blood. Scattered around are some suggestive shards and glass objects, indicating that we’re all f*cked.
About the band
Formed in 2014 by Vocalist Jim Marten & Guitarist Kamil Korsak, Hedra released their first EP, Mind Dimension in 2016. The band lineup has been through various changes in the intervening years, but with James Redden joining in 2022 to bash the skins and Daniel Older taking over bass duties in 2023, Hedra are on a mission to bring their music to every corner of the UK and beyond. With influences ranging from Iron Maiden to Muse to Soundgarden to Mastodon, the unmistakable and individual sound which conjures images of dark dystopian times makes Hedra stand out from the crowd while also appealing to those outside of the metal sphere. The band have a strong work ethic and an insatiable hunger to perform live, entertain, share their music, and help the metal scene become stronger and more open to everyone. Passionate performances captivate audiences, with the camaraderie displayed by the band adding to the overall sense of belonging. Marten is an assured and commanding frontman who rides the waves created by Korsak and Older’s intricate guitars and Redden’s drums; always leaving a crowd wanting more. Hedra have released numerous singles and two further EPs since Mind Dimension, Polaris in July 2022 and The PeckingOrder in November 2022. Each EP the band has released has been based on themes that tell a story. The most recent release centres around the handling of the pandemic. Hedra won band of the year for their performance at Mearfest Flame 2nd Sep 2023 which was one of the many highlights of 2023.
