“Phenomenal, a concrete-heavy slab of Brutalist rock” Clash Magazine

Leeds upstarts Fuzz Lightyear share raucous new offering ‘Berlin, 1885’, out today (June 11th) via cult indie label Nice Swan Records (English Teacher, Sprints, Chalk).

Marking their first release of 2025, ‘Berlin, 1885’ follows the band’s widely acclaimed on the BBC 6 Music stage at The Great Escape Festival (as well as their label’s own showcase), and arrives ahead of a series of summer shows alongside the likes of Queens Of The Stone Age and Viagra Boys, preceding their debut European tour this autumn.

Channelling the DIY ethos that birthed them, Fuzz Lightyear’s focus remains on sustained experimentation, community, and uninhibited rock and roll has already contributed to fervent support throughout the press community (NME, DIY, Dork, Clash, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit, Rough Trade, Under The Radar) and across the BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Huw Stephens, Emily Pilbeam) and Radio X (John Kennedy) airwaves in recent times.

Through their thrilling live shows, the band have crafted a chaotic and impressive blend of shoegaze, industrial noise-rock, and fast-paced punk, somewhere between the sounds of Sonic Youth and Show Me The Body amongst others. Having been invited to tour and perform with acts like English Teacher, Adult DVD, Lambrini Girls and Jasmine.4.T, as well as more icons of punk new and old, the quartet have fast earned themselves a cult following across the country.

At the heart of all things Fuzz Lightyear, though, is an unashamed passion for the communities around them and a want to perpetually collaborate and create. Without hesitation, every member unceasingly joins more and more bands including Bug Teeth and Shaene. Plus, with their work as promoters, sound engineers, and whatever else needs doing to keep an exciting ecosystem going, all four members are regular faces in any space where music is happening. Through constant collaborations with up and coming visual artists around them, working with their favourite acts on remixes, and organising community action gigs, the band is a vehicle for their love of the scene.

Speaking ahead of its release, frontman Ben Parry explained: “Most of our songs are about personal internal worlds, but this is our first song grappling with wider political society. I used to be a very political person, but after years of constant hate by the right, and with little sign of solutions, I lost that passion. It’s hard to stay in the fight when it feels like nothing’s changed. This song is something of a wakeup call to myself, and to anyone else as apathetic as me, to keep going.”

Fuzz Lightyear’s ‘Berlin, 1885’ is out now via Nice Swan Records and available on all digital platforms.

Fuzz Lightyear is Ben Parry (vocals, guitar), Josh Taylor (drums), Varun Govil (bass), Alex Calder (synth, guitar)
