Goat Girl share ‘sleep talk (chamber ensemble)’ and announce new EP 'Below The Waste - Orchestrated' (out 18th June)

Following the recent anniversary of their critically-acclaimed third album Below The Waste, South London luminaries Goat Girl unveil an exciting new venture. Cherry-picked from the 16-track Rough Trade-released record, Below The Waste - Orchestrated reimagines 4 unsung cuts and shines an entirely new light on them.

Recorded and mixed at Total Refreshment Centre by Syd Kemp (caroline, Thurston Moore) and mastered by Harvel Birrell (Lankum, black midi), the pieces were scored and arranged by Goat Girl and played live in the room with a DIY chamber ensemble made up of rising young musicians and artists in their own right Aga Ujma & Slow Cooked.

Heavy with atmosphere and intention, ‘sleep talk (chamber ensemble)’ sets the tone for the rest of the EP as a gut-wrenching string quartet stand in place of the uncanny mellotron parts on the original track. Almost entirely removing Goat Girl’s pummeling rhythm section, the band’s signature three-part harmonies find a welcome new home amongst the rich classical instrumentation, allowing Lottie Pendlebury’s tender words to hit harder than ever.

The EP will arrive ahead of Goat Girl’s long-awaited debut headline tour in North America this September & October, where they’ll be supported by the transcendental Maria BC.

Press:
“Now, the band’s mastery of balance lies mostly in their production. Below the Waste welds Goat Girl’s scrap-metal clanging to the more subtle garage-pop groove of On All Fours, creating a more refined version of the band’s music. They’re jumping into filth, and doing it with style.” - Pitchfork

Weaving field recordings of animal noises, rainfall, and laughter into a rich instrumental tapestry, the project is an intricately layered exploration of the push and pull between an idealised natural world and our destructive urban realities.” - DIY

Goat Girl have never sought to write the same song twice. Live, the band’s performances are like peering down at a petri dish – they throw ideas out, and see what happens.”- Clash
