Good Flying Birds is a jangling, noisy guitar-pop group based in the Midwest, USA. It began in December 2023 with a collection of 4-track cassette recordings and stop-motion videos uploaded to YouTube under the name “Talulah God,” along with a chaotic and colorful, GIF-infested website.
A limited edition cassette called Talulah’s Tape was released in early 2025 with the help of St Louis DIY label Rotten Apple. It showcased a wide-ranging love for the history of independent guitar music, clever and melodic songwriting, and an approachable twee-punk charm and made an immediate splash in underground circles, selling 300 cassettes in under a month, and led to the band sharing stages with acts like Sharp Pins, Wishy, Pardoner, Horsegirl, and Golomb.
Last month, Good Flying Birds announced their signing to Carpark and Smoking Room, and today the band are announcing the release of Talulah's Tape, which will be available on streaming and vinyl for the first time on October 17th. To mark the announce the band are sharing the new single "Fall Away," which features backing vocals from Wishy's Nina Pitchkites, and Kevin Krauter on drums.

Talulah’s Tape is a patchwork mixtape of stripped-down home recordings that span the independent-guitar spectrum. Across the release the band delivers colorful, intricate pop songs perched between the immediacy of DIY punk and the intimate sweetness of twee. Breakbeats, memes, and noise glue everything together, making the album feel as chronically online as it is timeless.
While production and approach vary, a through-line of sensitive self-contemplation rests on bright, scrappy guitars and hyperactive melodic bass. Standing on the same ground as idiosyncratic songwriters like Kevin Barnes and Stuart Murdoch, Good Flying Birds find sweetness in sadness, tear stains on a colorful flower-print couch. Simultaneously, it’s packed with the scratchy guitars and vibrant rhythms of Scottish guitar groups like The Pastels, Orange Juice, and Josef K. It’s a tremendous opening statement from a band just getting started.
"Fall Away" immediately captures the band's frenetic appeal, delivering a paisley power pop swirl at a blistering tempo that lands somewhere between Olivia Tremor Control and The Ramones.
Kellen Baker says of the track
"I recorded an iphone voice memo sitting in bed, singing and strumming an unplugged electric guitar, the usual. Sent it to my friend (now roommate) Kevin Krauter to see if he’d be interested in working together on it, figured we’d start from scratch and maybe rearrange some things. He sends back my voice memo with fully tracked drums a day later, played immaculately. He’s a savant. Started going over to his parent’s house in Carmel and built it up from that drum track, he recorded while i played in the corner of the basement over a couple days, broken up by listening to records, sitting in a hot tub, and watching Trances (documentary about nass el ghiwane) and Next (a crazy 2000s dating show). Later I had Nina Pitchkites (my friend and neighbor) come over and track some vocals in my bedroom, she knocked it out right away, she has an amazing voice. My friend Demi Jo was working on the music video for “Down On Me” at the same time in the same room I believe."
