Grace Calver unleashes a carefree summer anthem with new single ‘Nothing Too Serious’

With her unmistakable charm and a knack for turning life’s awkward moments into irresistibly catchy indie-pop, Grace Calver returns with her second single of the “blue era”: Nothing Too Serious. It’s a breezy, sun-soaked anthem packed with serotonin and silliness, leaning fully into her signature blend of irony, earnestness, and all-too-relatable storytelling.

Written in the aftermath of a breakup, Nothing Too Serious flips the script on heartbreak, choosing optimism over angst. Rather than dwell, Calver propels herself forward with shimmering guitars, a driving rhythm, and a chorus destined for car singalongs with friends. The track takes listeners on a snapshot tour of spontaneous days out, late-night conversations, questionable crushes, and the joyful chaos of friendship – complete with a nod to The Inbetweeners and a real-life cameo from her fact-dropping friend Evie.

The song was produced, mixed, and mastered by Jos Shepherd (known for his work with Alfie Templeman), and it leans into a sparkling, feel-good guitar riff that ties the whole thing together with warmth and confidence. It’s the kind of track that doesn’t just soundtrack the summer – it feels like summer. Calver captures that fleeting, fuzzy feeling of being twenty-something and just going with the flow – of knowing life’s a mess but deciding to dance through it anyway.

Calver, a 21-year-old unsigned artist from the Suffolk/Essex border, has been building a name for herself through witty, self-aware songwriting that refuses to take itself too seriously – even when the subject matter leans into heartbreak or personal upheaval. Her debut EP my life and its disasters (2023) marked her out as one to watch, and she’s since shared stages with the likes of The Lottery Winners, Alfie Templeman, T’Pau, Tom A Smith, and PET NEEDS. In 2022, she won the Solo Female award at the NMG Awards, following it up with the Breakthrough Artist Award in 2024, and she’s been tipped as one of BBC Introducing Suffolk & Norfolk’s “Ones to Watch”.

Live, her shows have become a space where people connect not just to the music but to the person behind it – the one who’ll happily own the cringe, exaggerate a lyric for a laugh, or leave a room in stitches with a single line. Nothing Too Serious is Calver in full technicolour: funny, self-aware, sincere – and more than ready to soundtrack your next spontaneous road trip or group chat-worthy night out.
