“Mega tunes.” Noel Gallagher

“Their songs are strong and melodic. They’re constantly writing and honing their music. I think The Marra are in a great line of new Irish artists.”Paul Weller

Rising Irish rock band The Marra today announce their thrilling new single ‘Falling Off’ - out now. Arriving as a bold statement, the track marks the first chapter in the Derry-formed band’s journey, one certain to establish them among the next wave of Ireland’s thriving music scene.

‘Falling Off’ melds the jittery energy of Nineties rock – think Oasis or The Stone Roses – with the silky danger of bands such as Fontaines DC and The Strokes. The guitars snarl; the percussion shivers and crashes; the bass thrums menacingly. Ward’s voice is an alluring call as he sings: “Somewhere between me and the moonlight/ My love is alight, baby/ Can you feel it? Can you feel it come closer?/ As it sets you on fire, baby.”

All local lads who grew up a stone’s throw from one another, The Marra are Shane MacGowan (rhythm guitar), Ryan Ward (vocals), Matthew Crossan (guitar), Luke McLaughlin (bass) and Conor Lynch (drums). With an eclectic range of influences – musical, literary, cinematic – they’re carving out a path that is all their own.

Founding members MacGowan and Ward joined forces with Crossan and McLaughlin – formerly of the post-punk outfit Touts, who attracted praise from The Independent, NME and Louder Than War – and Lynch, formerly of The Switch, earlier this year. Together as The Marra, they offer brilliant harmonies redolent of classic Merseybeat bands, paired with lush Laurel Canyon textures and rootsy folk and Americana.

MacGowan says: “I truly believe there is something special brewing if we keep our heads down and put in the work. The boys (Matthew, Luke and Conor) bring a raw intensity that we didn’t have before. All the other lads inspire me to be a better musician and songwriter.”

Crossan adds: “It’s surreal to have legends like Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller backing us. I think we’re just going to throw the kitchen sink at it – because talent is one thing, but you need a mindset, you need ambition. Us five lads have that.”

"Falling Off", the new single by The Marra, is out 15 July 2025. Stay tuned.
