Jesse Creatchman Releases New Single “Fairytale Blues”

ONCE UPON A BLUES ~Montreal’s Jesse Creatchman returns with Fairytale Blues, a spellbinding folk-blues ballad from the 12-bar dungeon. It’s a rich fusion of folklore and downhome blues — a tale of enchantment, liberation, and revenge.

Creatchman leans into the tropes of the classic fairy tale with some twists. Guinevere isn’t quite who she seemed. The dragon gets slayed… but the prince doesn’t exactly ride off into the sunset. With vivid imagery, howling harmonica, and a dusty groove, Fairytale Blues unfolds like a grim fable wrapped in modern twang and soul.

“A friend of mine took a bite out of a bad apple,” Jesse hints.

Behind the Song

“I knew I wanted to write a blues. I knew what I wanted to write about. I just didn't know how I wanted to say it. I couldn't get it going. I was just walking around. “Once Upon A Time” was just floating around my head. I tried to ignore it. It was like being stuck in a room due to your unwillingness to walk out the doorway. Dylan had already done it. Instead of alluding to the timeless style, if I actually wrote a fairytale, no funny business, maybe I could get away with it. The funny thing is that it wrote itself. I just had to follow the breadcrumbs. Shemerr kept the music honest. Dixon came in and brought it to life on guitar. We played it together. I went out to smoke a cigarette as Dom and Deme were setting up. By the time I came back it was done. Zeller brought it home on the harp. Somehow he found a way to make it swampy and ornate. That's Jim. He's eclectic. A blues tune with some timeless elements but it's not exactly Baroque.”
