On November 7th, Mini Trees,  the project of Los Angeles-based songwriter Lexi Vega, will release her new album Slow It Down, her first independently released album. Slow It Down is Vega’s most vulnerable record to date: a chronicle of endings, revelations, and the terrifying freedom of choosing yourself.

New single ‘On Repeat’ draws from a cycle of unrequited queer crushes and industry near-misses, capturing the endless pull of being strung along. Of the single, Vega says:

"It's about the feeling of being caught in a loop... drawn to something or someone you know isn’t good for you, but can’t quite let go of. It’s that intoxicating mix of hope and disappointment, the quiet tension that keeps pulling you back even when you know better.

I wrote it the day I downloaded Ableton, just messing around with a new DAW after years of working in Logic. I stumbled on a random arp setting that completely transformed the synth chords I was playing, and that moment of discovery became the backbone of the song - steering it toward a more pop-forward, dance-driven sound that still carries an emotional weight underneath. In the final version, we re-tracked the arp so it weaves in and out of the song, but if it weren’t for that simple discovery, I don’t think this song would’ve come together the way it did."

Slow It Down is, in hindsight, a record where I unknowingly wrote myself out of a life I couldn’t live anymore,” Vega says. “At its core, this album is me processing the quiet unraveling of a life and a marriage built with a man, while at the same time, almost secretly, coming out fully to myself through song before I was even ready to admit it in real life.”

At the heart of Slow It Down is a haunting fork in the road: “Do I choose stability and let my dreams fade into the background? Or do I take the risk of unraveling everything in pursuit of something uncertain but more true to myself?” Vega explains. “That tension became the thread through these songs, showing up not just in my personal life but also in my career: walking away from management, leaving my label, heading out on my first headline tours, and finally learning to trust myself enough to go all in, even when it felt reckless.”

Across its ten tracks, the record mirrors this reckoning - restless, self-deprecating, at times satirical, but always reaching for something real. Rooted in indie and alt pop, it balances intimacy with expansiveness: layered harmonies and textured background vocals weave through grooves that merge live drums with sampled loops, while guitars shift between bright melodic riffs and heavier walls of sound.

Ultimately, Slow It Down captures the paradox of self-discovery: messy, haunted, and liberating all at once.

“If Slow It Down has a lesson, it’s that you can’t outwrite yourself,” Vega reflects. “Even when I thought I was penning imagined scenarios or abstract feelings, my subconscious was already telling the truth I wasn’t ready to face. In the process, I stumbled into fully realizing my queerness, my independence, and a new trust in following my instincts - no matter how terrifying they seemed.”

With its mix of grief and becoming, satire and sincerity, Slow It Down is both a closing chapter and a new beginning - the sound of Mini Trees stepping fully into her own.
