Raise A Glass To The Perfect Love Story – Wave Of The Flood releases “Merlot”

Rising contemporary folk act Wave Of The flood unveils her stunning new single Merlot, a reflection on love, compromise, and the beauty found in everyday relationships.

Produced by acclaimed folk musician Kris Drever (Lau), elevated by the expressive fiddle playing of Dylan Cairns, and grounding rhythm of John McDonald’s rich double bass, Merlot pairs rich instrumentation with heartfelt storytelling. The song explores how the little quirks and compromises in a relationship—those seemingly small details—can add up to something truly perfect.

The release marks the fifth release from an ambitious project to launch a single a month for a year from Wave Of The Flood, aka singer songwriter Lindsay Strachan. Having turned 45 in June, she’s celebrating the original format of the single – the 45rpm.

Strachan says:

Merlot is about learning to love the differences, or using them as a chance to expand your horizons. It’s about finding joy in the small things and realising that it’s those details that make a relationship whole, such as developing a taste for each other’s favourite drinks.”

With its warm acoustic textures and timeless lyrical themes, Merlot bridges the gap between traditional folk roots and contemporary songwriting, making it a compelling listen for fans of modern folk and beyond.

Merlot is available on all major streaming platforms from 10 October.
