SINGLE REVIEW: Electric Cherry - Slower & Quarantine
I adore receiving new music from different parts of the world, it offers an opening perspective and refreshing sounds. Electric Cherry is providing just that with their rock and roll outfit with a modern alt twist.
Focusing on a double single review for their upcoming album “Cherry Heart” To be Released 9th May via Vrec Music Label.
Slower is wrapped up by the warm bluesy guitars and pulsing bass. Accompanied by bright licks of melody and shuffling drums that create that chilled head-bopping groove with light subtly warbling of synths in the background that makes for a tight track ideal for distinguished entertainment for an underground speak-easy.
There is a romantic heartbreaking aura to it. Following along the lines of someone so important to have an everlasting impression on the narrator's life -The themes highlight the complicated relationship with promises and commitments has a toxic bitter undertone to the lyrics. However, the bittersweet feeling of one last touch is a result of “Hug Me Slower” to savour the feeling. Overall, very beautiful and emotive lyric writing.
Listeners cannot ignore the impressive vocal range that is demonstrated in the very heartfelt vocalisations in “Why… why… why?” the apex of the song followed by some ground-breaking soloing to double down that soul shattering feeling before ending so smoothly and to fade.
Quarantine - Featuring bass virtuoso and singer Andrea Ra adding those rich low vocal tones to the track.
Quarantine opens with what I’d describe as modern surf music to be if the tempo was ramped up. The playful groove drives up urgency on bright rhythm guitars whilst thunderous bass sits right above everything. Friendly warbling background synths add some lightness to the track.
The irritated feeling and upbeat tempos really encompass the idea of the narrator sneaking out beyond quarantine to see this lady, however, was just a play thing out of boredom. The narrator feels strung along, and rightly so.
I love that it’s upbeat and catchy, very easy to get into and bop along and very relatable. Stuck in Quarantine years ago was a wild ride so it’s interesting to catch a glimpse of other people’s experience with it and in turn was a great point of inspiration to create music!
