SINGLE REVIEW: Hyperwulf - This Summer
Canadian artist Hyperwulf is on a mission to make music that turns into unforgettable memories. Ideal for heartbreaks, late nights and nostalgia wrapped up in a light-hearted pop-punk formula.
This Summer is the ultimate nostalgic, romantic summer anthem, written with poetic precision that vividly captures shimmering heat, rolling beach waves, and the joy of dancing to your favourite songs. Beneath its upbeat energy, though, lies a subtle ache- the quiet melancholy of missing someone, whether a lover or a friend, tied to a fleeting season that always fades too soon. It’s a track that leaves you smiling and aching all at once; A perfect bittersweet aftertaste of summer.
The guitars chime in immediately, warm and bright, like sunlight spilling across the opening bars. Their sharp, unforgettable riffs carry an instant familiarity, the kind that makes you smile before you even realise it. The drums are tight and confidently placed at the centre, pulsing with precision, while the bass hums beneath it all, subtle but essential, keeping the track grounded.
There’s an effortless simplicity in how these elements work together; nothing feels overdone, just pure, infectious energy. And before you know it, the song ends, fading as fast as it began, leaving that familiar ache of wanting just a little more.
I’m actually quite sad hearing this now, in October, this track would have made it home in my Summer Playlist. However, the reason to look forward to next summer.
