SINGLE REVIEW: Mess Out - Awake
Forged From the circle pits in France, punk rock outfit, Mess Out serves up a meal of explosive adrenaline in their single Awake. Their raw passion and dynamic presence pave the way for their direct approach that denounces violence against women through the eyes of a man who refuses to look away.
This track hits like a storm- all thunderous energy and technical precision, charged with justified brutality and anthemic hooks that refuse to let go. It feels like the song to draw in new listeners: meticulously crafted, politically aware, and emotionally defiant. Blending the grit of hardcore, the bite of metal, the heart of pop-punk, and a haunting splash of doom, it stands as a fierce declaration of the band’s range and intent.
At the 2:00 marker highlights possibly the most important part of the track “I’m not pretending I’m an angel that I didn't make mistakes but at least I'm trying to learn everyday what really are the stakes…” - I love that there is also ownership towards behaviours and mistakes in the past and the willingness to grow as stated in the monologue of the breakdown. This is a wonderful demonstration of using music as a tool to be better and be better role models to other people. Mass Out demands justice.
Additional points for that Bleuggh. Very satisfying.
I absolutely love the music video. It’s a vivid snapshot of Mass Out’s live chaos — the sweat, the noise, the unity between band and audience. Every shot radiates authenticity, translating that on-stage adrenaline into something intimate and real. It’s thrilling for new listeners discovering them for the first time, and for long-time fans, it feels like being right there in the pit again — part of something bigger than yourself.
The outro carries that charged intensity to the very end, its electric energy unrelenting, right up until it’s abruptly torn apart by gunfire.
The song is over fast and will have you yearning for more.
10/10.
