The Burgers Release Third Studio Album ‘Kick Fights to Lose’
Glasgow, UK — Kick Fights to Lose is the third studio album by The Burgers and marks Zac Burger’s first release since leaving China’s misogynistic rock scene for Glasgow. It is also the project’s first fully English-language album.
The album explores the hegemonic structures within the independent music industry and pop culture, expressing a form of “improper anger” that refuses to play by the rules of either mainstream respectability or subcultural orthodoxy. It retains The Burgers’ trademark raw major-key chords and melodic vocal delivery.
To Kill Takeshi Kitano satirizes the toxic masculinity embedded in the narrative structures of the film industry, questioning how male-centric myths shape both art and society.
Hypocrite Joe critiques the mythologization of punk icons like Joe Strummer, and interrogates a rock culture that places political posturing above musical substance.
Are You Really Listening to Music? responds to the gatekeeping and clique politics Zac Burger encountered in the Scottish punk scene—particularly from promoters and bands who, while publicly aligning themselves with progressive causes, exclude those who don’t conform to a rigid definition of behavior. The track also serves as a direct challenge to the hegemonic norms enforced by a well-known California punk label.
Kick Fights to Lose was self-released on May 23, 2025, under Zac Burger’s virtual label, Unsolicited Demos Records.
