UK J Pop, Dark pop x Metal band Re:O release single 'Crimson Desire'

Crimson Desire is the 9th single released by Re:O. Crimson Desire explores the realisation that what you have is not enough despite sacrificing most of your life to get where you are. The more you gain, the more it fuels an unending hunger to further advance your goals and ambitions. This story is conveyed through visceral imagery of vampirism.

Re:O takes a different stance in this track musically by focusing less on their signature blend of Japanese-styled synths and more on raw, heavy guitar riffs that bring an eccentric and chaotic energy. The synths support the guitar and bass, throwing at you the aggression and frustration the lyrics portray. This is contrasted by Rio Suyama’s following melodies that not only complement the instrumentation but add a layer of calculated and calm emotion, anchoring the lyrics to the music. This combination gives an overall feeling of frustration, want, and aggression—while making it clear the story is not about an emotional outburst, but a calm, thorough process describing her desire to climb higher in her music career.

Crimson Desire shows Re:O’s continued dive into the metal genre while staying true to their blend of J-pop and dark pop, continuing to fuse Japanese-styled music with Western modern metal and rock. The focus in this single shifts from synthonic, glitchy, and chaotic synths to raw, energetic, and aggressive guitar and bass, encapsulating the dark, emotional, and raw story of Crimson Desire.
