Valentyne Unleashes Brooding New Single: “Do What You Want (Own Me)”

Rising UK alt-rock band Valentyne return with “Do What You Want (Own Me)”, a heavy, guitar-driven single featuring brooding riffs and anthemic choruses. It marks the first release from a five-track EP, with every track accompanied by a cinematic music video — each a chapter in a horror-inspired short film.

Shaped by the distorted beauty of Boston Manor, The Mysterines, Wolf Alice, and Deftones, “Own Me” serves as the gateway into Valentyne’s most immersive project to date — a concept EP drenched in dark visuals and themes of control, defiance, and desire. The narrative and lyrics are inspired by dystopian worlds, existing in an Orwellian nightmare — a fitting foundation for the band’s horror-infused visual storytelling.

Own Me is about being trapped in a waking nightmare - your sense of self decays and each move feels guided by unseen hands. To succumb to their will, or become the monster. In the end, you’re dancing on their strings…” says composer George David Webster.

Emerging from the shadows of the UK underground, Valentyne have quickly made their presence felt with fierce live shows, a punk-rock attitude, and a hauntingly beautiful aesthetic. Their debut music video “Hate Me” stirred cult buzz, drawing over 60,000 views and climbing — a clear signal of the band’s rising influence. Earlier singles “Delora” and “Under the Skin” received national radio play on BBC Radio 1, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and Radio Lancashire, with “Delora” featured on Spotify’s Best New Indie playlist. Festival appearances include Leeds Festival, The Neighbourhood, Trib Fest, Camper Calling, and Boardworks.

Winners of both the MCFC Battle of the Bands 2023 and Lytham Festival BOTB 2024, the band have lit up venues like Manchester’s O2 Academy and Night & Day Café, Sheffield’s Leadmill, and Blackpool’s Lowther Pavilion. In late 2024, Valentyne completed a 14-date UK tour, spanning cities from Glasgow to Brighton.

Own Me” is released September 5th across all streaming platforms, with the accompanying video launching the first chapter in Valentyne’s visual EP project — a bold crossover between music and horror cinema.
