JULY 10 - South London vocal ensemble WOOM announce their new EP ‘To Slow You’ for release on August 28th via House Anxiety. With the news comes brand new single ‘Slow You’. The quartet are also playing a headline show at London’s iconic ICA on September 26th.
‘Slow You’ comes with an amazing cinematic video from noted director Billy Howard Price (Jelani Blackman, Martha Skye Murphy, Creeper) and follows the stunning recent teaser single, ‘Circe’. ‘To Slow You’ is WOOM’s first collection of all original compositions, building on the cult reputation of their acclaimed 2021 debut EP ‘Into The Rest’, which saw them reimagine a series of tracks from luminary artists such as Frank Ocean, Outkast, and Angel Olsen.
Speaking on their new single, the band explain:
“It’s a song about confronting the shadow parts of ourselves—the fears and anxieties that follow us around like ghosts. It’s about acknowledging them in order to let go, to ‘give up the ghost,’ and find a way to slow down in this fast-moving world. The track was born out of hours of looping and experimentation, we played with the voice and production intuitively and ended up echoing the songs themes; vocal effects that feel almost possessed, wordless breaths and hums building rhythm communicating something internal, and a lamenting saxophone that weaves through it all, all building toward a final moment of release.”
WOOM are often described as a band-meets-choir. Standing out as an entirely unique proposition, their vocal styling and production has however been compared to Warpaint, Mazzy Star and Cat Power. They have built a loyal following through a mix of their viral song re-imaginings and spellbinding onstage performances. Their epic live schedule has included two consecutive sold-out headline shows at The Southbank Centre, festivals like Glastonbury, Mirrors and Boiler Room Festival and shows with artists like Caroline Polachek, Clarissa Connelly, Laura Misch, The Big Moon and Grouper. To mark the release of the new EP, they have announced their biggest headline show to date at London’s iconic ICA venue on 26th September.
