Hartlepool newcomers Champ share thrilling second single ‘Future’ (video here), out today (August 28th), alongside news of their debut UK headline tour this autumn.
Specialising in making big-hearted, guitar-driven anthems for dreamers in small towns, the quartet’s newest offering arrives off the back of acclaimed debut single ‘Taste To Run’ earlier this summer. Attracting encouraging plaudits from the likes of NME and DIY Magazine, as well as initial plays on the BBC Radio 1 (Jess Iszatt) airwaves, Champ are primed for a busy autumn with their headline run set to include shows in London, Manchester and their hometown amongst others.
Bringing songs of mates, mistakes, late nights, growing up and the characters that defined them, the group (FFO The War On Drugs, Tame Impala, Wunderhorse) are readying themselves to unveil further new music in the coming months, as they become an ever-growing presence on the emerging indie landscape.
Speaking ahead of their single release, frontman Jonny Bee explained: “‘Future’ is an ode to a lot of our friends and family from back home who spend their lives working away. Where we’re from, if you want to provide a comfortable life for the people closest to you you’ve typically got to sacrifice your own time to do that and leave your loved ones for weeks on end. When it comes to writing songs we always like to put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and write from their perspective. This one’s a tune for anyone who’s ever chased a life they couldn’t quite touch, whilst trying not to forget themselves."
