SINGLE REVIEW: Soraia - Body in the Backyard
Punk rockers Soraia are back with a bang on their latest single, “Body in the Backyard.” In just 2 minutes 34, the Philadelphia outfit deliver a track that wastes no time in grabbing attention, all sharp edges and fiery energy. Right from the intro, it’s clear this isn’t a song to sit quietly in the background — it leaps forward with a swagger that feels both familiar and refreshingly urgent.
At the centre is ZouZou Mansour’s unmistakable vocal, dripping with attitude and conviction. There’s a twang of Primal Fear in the grit of her delivery, but just as much of Joan Jett’s fierce, melodic bite in the way she commands the hook. It’s the kind of performance that not only drives the song forward but gives it its character, balancing raw bite with an ear for melody.
Despite its short length, “Body in the Backyard” packs a serious punch. The retro influences are impossible to miss, but Soraia manage to lace them with a modern touch that stops the track from feeling like pure nostalgia. Instead, it lands as a tight, fiery snapshot of where punk’s roots meet its present — a bold statement in under three minutes, and a reminder that sometimes the best songs are the ones that leave you wanting more.
